Energy Procurement & Management(EP&M) Overview
Energy Procurement & Management(EP&M)ensures that our customers have enough electricity to meet their needs,through the output of SCE-owned generation plants and purchase of electricityfrom independent generators. We engage in multi-year contracts from bothtraditional and renewable generators, and conduct day-ahead and real-timetrading to serve our customers' electricity demands.
Position Overview:
Thisposition will be in the Portfolio Planning and Analysis department withinSouthern California Edison's (SCE) Energy Procurement and Managementorganizational unit. The successful candidate will report to Energy Procurementand Management's Manager of Valuation and Portfolio Analytics and will work onhighly technical, strategic and analytical initiatives and projects includingthe evaluation of renewable, preferred and conventional power contracts andfinancial instruments, production-cost simulation modeling of generation andtransmission assets, commodity price and volatility modeling, and riskmanagement.
Thisposition will support the development and design of complex analytical modelsin addition to executing the evaluation process for all energy procurementactivities, including renewable, conventional, energy storage, transmission andgas. The successful candidate will beresponsible for leading the development and implementation of analyticmethodologies and selection metrics through the use of financial engineering,numerical and valuation analysis, fundamental production cost and power flowanalysis, Monte Carlo simulation, and optimization techniques, to supportenergy hedging and procurement decisions. The successful candidate will be responsible for collaborating withEnergy Contracts, Risk Management, Operations and other key stakeholders increating, vetting, and implementing offer worksheets and other required conduitdocuments and applications for the various procurement activities in which SCEtakes part, and in ensuring their validity, accuracy and consistency withcontract language, operations, and regulatory and legislative mandates. Thesuccessful candidate will also have responsibility for regulatory support inthe form of subject matter expertise and the preparation of advice letters andtestimony in support of energy procurement activities.
TypicalResponsibilities:
Developsvaluation methodologies for complex structured products in support of contractorigination, resource additions, resource characteristic modifications orcommodity trading.
Collaborateswith management on planning and strategy development which guides the company'slong-term participation in gas and electric markets. Communicates strategies, metrics andmethodologies throughout the Company and with regulators. Interacts with senior management to explainand consult on the merits and uses of various optimization and analytic optionsto support the Company's energy procurement function. Consults with executives and seniormanagers, business process owners and key stakeholders on matters related toenergy procurement analytics, risk assessments, optimization and bid valuationand selection. Reviews and approves modeling and analysis used to forecast,plan and reduce customer costs. Analyzesand develops trading/hedging strategies, supports resource planning, performsportfolio optimization and manages market risk.
Providessupport and guidance on SCE's evaluation of Energy Storage assets, includinghaving in-depth knowledge of the various storage technologies and their valuationmethodologies.
Proposes,vets, and implements procurement strategies and valuation frameworks to meetevolving compliance and programmatic requirement. Constantly assimilates newinformation and requirements as they become available, and transforms SCE'sapproach accordingly.
Providessystems development and maintenance support for SCE's proprietary evaluation,risk and other analytic models.
Providesfunctional leadership to other team members as required. May fill in for themanager for some activities.
Leadsnew initiatives to develop information technology projects required toeffectively value and manage energy contracts including the development ofvaluation tools and solicitation data management protocols
Leadingand/or supporting cross-functional teams that include I.T., SIPP, Power Supply,CP&S, T&D, Finance, and other departments as required
Actsas a subject matter expert and may act as an expert witness.
Promotesthe Company's safety culture to ensure a safe work environment.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor'sDegree or higher in economics, operations research, statistics, mathematics,engineering, or similar quantitative disciplines.
Sixor more years of quantitative analysis and forecasting experience. Eight ormore years of experience with statistical, mathematical, econometric, orfinancial modeling.
Six or more years of direct experience in developing, implementing, and maintaining quantitative frameworks, in SAS, Python, MATLAB, C /C#, SQL, R.
Experience creating complex reports and graphs, converting information from one format to another, and generating reports from business applications/databases
Advancedexperience using Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint
Mustdemonstrate strong ethics, influence and negotiation, leadership, interpersonalskills, communication, and the ability to effectively manage stress and engagein continuous learning
Desired Qualifications:
Master'sDegree or PhD in statistics, mathematics, engineering, economics, operationsresearch, or a similar quantitative discipline.
Sixor more years of quantitative analytics experience within CA energy markets.
Demonstratedknowledge of and experience with energy procurement and/or trading systems,energy planning activities, energy portfolio management, energy assetvaluation, fundamental modeling, parallel processing and distributed systems.
Understandingof the operating rules and regulatory requirements of California energymarkets, including knowledge of CAISO, CPUC and FERC
Indepth experience with Unit Commitment, Optimization, and/or Economic Dispatchmodels.
Experienceusing CPLEX and/or OpenSolver
Demonstratedknowledge of stochastic processes and Monte Carlo simulation
Demonstratedknowledge of power flow analysis
Advancedexperience with all technology and resource types currently operating theCAISO, and familiarity and theoretical understanding of emerging technologiesand products, including valuation and operations.
Effectiveverbal and written communications skills, with demonstrated ability to explaincomplex technical concepts to a non-technical audience.
Abilityto effectively work in a high demand environment.
Abilityto make effective decisions that meet business needs while minimizing risk andoperating within company policies and all applicable regulations

The primary worklocation for this position is Rosemead, CA
Candidates for thisposition must be legally authorized to work directly as employees for anyemployer in the United States without visa sponsorship.
Relocation may be available forqualified candidates.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
