About Energy Procurement Management (EPM) Organization:
Southern California Edison Company's (SCE) Energy Procurement & Management (EPM) organization is responsible for developing SCE's multi-billion dollar energy resource portfolio, with a particular emphasis on non-GHG emitting resources in furtherance of SCE's clean energy commitment.
Position Overview:
Energy Contract Origination is responsible for the procurement of energy resources, and oversees all aspects of the deal-making process, including the solicitation process, due diligence, negotiations, selections, and closing.
This position will be a Power Origination, Senior Advisor in the Energy Contract Origination department within Southern California Edison's (SCE) Energy Procurement and Management organization.
The successful candidate's primary function will be to conduct energy procurement solicitations, originating and negotiating mid-term, and long-term structured transactions and power purchase agreements on behalf of SCE customers while ensuring compliance with the California Public Utility Commission (CPUC) approved Long Term Procurement Plan (LTPP), Renewables Portfolio Standard and other related regulatory targets. Products include: renewable and alternative energy, conventional power, capacity, energy storage, emissions, transmission, and natural gas.
Typical Responsibilities:
Lead and project manage multiple and complex energy procurement solicitations
Lead SCE's relationship with counterparties through project development, amendments, consents, and on-going contract administration. The Energy Contracts Specialist is tasked with managing contracts that contribute toward SCE's Renewables Portfolio Standards (RPS) goal and support SCE's power, gas transmission, and emission trading functions while limiting credit and legal risks.
Lead cross department stakeholder teams in the administration of short- and long-term energy contracts with Independent Power Producers, financial institutions and other market participants. The portfolio of contracts range from one month to 20 years and all have significant monetary value, typically millions of dollars over the life of the contract. The level of visibility of this function to senior management and executives inside the company and at the CPUC and California Energy Commission is very high.
Evaluate and manage contract requirements, review payments, manage disputes and make strategic recommendations to maximize benefits to customers. Will also work closely with the planning, day-ahead operations, real-time, risk, credit, law and settlement groups with primary responsibility to ensure implementation and proper management of each contract from inception to termination.
Will be primary point of contact for several types of energy contracts including renewables, conventional power, combined heat and power, natural gas and broker agreements.
Lead and manage multiple projects simultaneously as the primary point-of-contact with internal and external stakeholders.
Make presentations to senior management, participates in industry forums, reviews industry documents, responds to regulatory documents/filings/data requests, and supports accurate financial reporting.
Other responsibilities will include preparing reports and presentations for management, responding to data requests, and staying informed of state, local and federal regulatory actions that impact energy procurement.
Minimum Qualifications:
Experience with contract negotiation, management, administration.
Experience negotiating and managing energy contracts such as renewables, conventional power, combined heat and power, or natural gas.
Bachelor's Degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Engineering
Desired Qualifications:
Typically possesses ten or more years of experience in functions related to electricity trading/marketing, contract management, negotiation, project management, and/or related experience.
Experience in energy markets.
Experience with deregulated energy markets, related to both physical operations and regulatory structures.
Experience with energy, emission master, or broker agreements.
Experience interacting with state, local and federal regulatory agencies
Experience analyzing complex financial, regulatory, and/or business problems.
Experience leading cross-functional project teams and implementing multiple projects.
Experience developing strategies for complex and competitive situations involving multiple variables.
Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Visio and Project.
Ability to apply project management principles, including project scoping and planning, project team mobilization, and driving projects to completion with sensitivity to competing business needs and resources.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports and present complex technical information to a wide audience, in non-technical language.
Ability to maintain a safety conscious work environment by following Edison safety protocols and safe work practices.
Ability to integrate work across relevant areas, develop the business and services to enhance customer satisfaction and productivity, manage risks and safety appropriately, develop and execute business plans, manage information, and provide exceptional service to internal and external customers.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
