Position Overview:
The Fire Scientist/Behaviorist will function as the technical expert in support of wildfire prevention, mitigation and response efforts for SCE. Responsible for leading a cross functional team to develop and refine sophisticated predictive modeling capabilities for wildfire ignition, growth and behavior. The position will work with State Agencies to define industry standards, policies/practices and conduct/publish research in the fire science field to help advance the industry and SCE technical capabilities to monitor, prepare for and respond to wildfires.
Typical Responsibilities:
Leads and provides subject matter expertise for cross functional teams (internal/external) to include IOUs, university and fire agencies partners to develop advanced predictive modeling capabilities for wildfire ignition and behavior
Provides expert knowledge for the development/implementation of procedures, technical tools and models for wildfire mitigation.
Collaborate with meteorology team to develop state of the art situational awareness products and tools, including advanced fire weather forecasting products and models.
Provides expert advice in driving decisions related to strategy development that informs fire preparedness and response, science and technology investment operational response postures and plans.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors or Master's degree in fire science, forest/fire ecology, forestry engineering, meteorology, atmospheric sciences or related technical discipline.
15 years of experience in fire management, electric field, weather forecasting and statistical analysis.
Experience and broad knowledge of regulatory policies, methods and practices necessary to perform complex assignments.
Demonstrates a broad understanding of how extreme weather events may affect an electric utility.
Desired Qualifications
Graduate degree in fire science, forest/fire ecology, forestry engineering, meteorology, atmospheric sciences or related technical discipline.
Demonstrated experience in modeling active fires and communicating on impacts.
Demonstrated experience in electric system construction, protection and restoration
Extensive knowledge of fire suppression and fire behavior
Demonstrated experience using SAS, R or other tools for statistical analysis/forecasting
Demonstrated experience preparing findings and presenting complex technical information to technical and non-technical audiences.
Comments
Candidates for this position must be legally authorized to work directly as employees for any employer in the United States without visa sponsorship.
Position will require traveling and being out in the field throughout the SCE service territory and other locations within California as needed.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
